ABOUT ALEX

Based on his belief that every young person, whatever their experience or diagnosis can have a positive future, he set up One Step back in 2015.

His experience varies from managing peer-led mental health charities and supporting young people who have suffered domestic abuse, to running chalets and pulling pints!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I can't pin down one guilty pleasure I love chocolate ice cream in bed, eBay shopping for clothes and anything Harry Potter!

Who’s your hero?

I know it's corny but my Step father is my hero.

His strength, love and ability to overcome language barriers, cultural norms and be a source of strength for me has given me every inspiration for what is achievable in life.

What would you say is your proudest moment?

I’m lucky that I have 3 beautiful children, sometimes I see them out in the garden or in the fields playing, supporting and showing each other love and knowing that in some small way I have supported them in their growth, makes me hugely proud.

More personally I have, having done no exercise in lots of years, recently ran 8.5 miles off track and completed it without passing out. This was huge!

You’re going to be stuck on a desert island for the rest of your days. What 3 things are you taking with you?

Tunes and lots of them.... I can't be without music, different vibes to keep me going!

Hair clippers that magically recharge so my thinning scalp doesn't make me look like a weird backwards monk.

Air drops of food and water, I am not a practical man!
